Atsumi Peninsula jutting from southeastern Aichi blooms abundantly with canola flowers every February-March. Tahara City where "Canola Festival (February-March)" is held is widely known as a canola flower scenic spot of East Mikawa.
Canola Flowers and Irago Cape
"Irago-misaki (Irago Cape)" at the tip of Atsumi Peninsula is a cape facing the Pacific Ocean where spring scenery of canola flowers, cherry trees, and sea can be enjoyed. Views of "Irago Waterway" (strait between Aichi and Mie) from "Michi no Eki Irago Crystal Porto" are spectacular, also famous as a migratory bird (hawks and eagles) observation spot.
Cabbage and Melon Production Area
Atsumi Peninsula is also one of Japan's leading cabbage and melon production areas. A region with active agriculture where harvest experiences of locally produced vegetables and fruits can be done at Tahara City agricultural experience facilities.
