Chita Peninsula: Aichi's Peninsula Fragrant with Sea, Hot Springs, and Brewing Culture

🏯 Aichi|May 11, 2026

Chita Peninsula

Sacred Ground of Brewing Culture

Chita Peninsula has been known since the Edo period as a producing area for soy sauce, miso, and sake, with many breweries still remaining in Handa and Hekinan cities. Handa City, home to Mizkan headquarters, is also active in vinegar brewing, with popular brewery tours.

Handa Canal and Red Brick Warehouses

The red-brick warehouses lining the Handa Canal retain the atmosphere of the Meiji and Taisho eras. The "Mizkan Museum" offers experiences with the history and culture of vinegar.

Chita Shikoku Pilgrimage

"Chita Shikoku," a circuit of 88 temples associated with Kobo Daishi, has attracted pilgrims since the Edo period as a replica of the Shikoku 88-temple pilgrimage.

Seafood and Hot Springs

Hot spring inns are scattered throughout the peninsula, offering fresh seafood from Ise Bay and Chita Bay. Visitors can enjoy seasonal delicacies like blowfish, oysters, and shrimp while relaxing on a leisurely trip.
