Mt. Hakkoda south of Aomori City is a group of volcanoes with Odake (1,584m) as its highest peak. One of Japan's heaviest snowfall regions, its winter rime ice creates magical otherworldly scenes.

Tips
Rime ice peaks in January–February. The ropeway closes in strong winds — always check the forecast before going. Sukayu's hinoki cypress bath is an exceptional experience.
