Hirosaki Castle and Cherry Blossom Festival: Japan's Greatest Castle Sakura Experience

🍎 Aomori|May 11, 2026

Hirosaki Castle and Cherry Blossoms

Hirosaki Castle Park features approximately 2,600 Yoshino cherry trees — the largest concentration in the Tohoku region. Blossoms against Mt. Iwaki (Tsugaru Fuji) make this arguably Japan's most scenic cherry blossom location.

Highlights

- Hirosaki Castle: Tohoku's only surviving castle tower, spectacular with cherry blossoms - Flower Raft: Fallen petals covering the moat surface in a magical floating carpet - Mt. Iwaki Backdrop: Panorama of blossoms against Tsugaru Plain and the mountain - Night Illumination: Magical illuminated cherry blossoms at dusk

Festival Info

- Dates: Usually about 10 days in late April–early May - Entry fee: Partial areas ¥310+

Getting There

- From JR Hirosaki Station: 30 minutes on foot or 10 minutes by bus

Tips

Hirosaki's blooms peak later than most areas — around Golden Week. Weekends are extremely crowded; visit early morning on a weekday for the best experience.
