On the outskirts of Aomori City, Sannai-Maruyama is Japan's largest Jomon period settlement, flourishing 5,900โ4,200 years ago. In 2021, it was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of "Jomon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan."

Tips
Site entry is free (facility fee applies). A guided tour deepens understanding significantly. Summer outdoor events are held at the site.
