Onjuku: Pacific Ocean Swimming and Traditional Net Hauling Experience

🥜 Chiba|May 11, 2026

Onjuku's Connection with Mexico

Onjuku Town, Chiba has a history from 1609 when local fishermen rescued the crew of a shipwrecked Spanish vessel, maintaining friendly relations with Mexico ever since. A monument commemorating this friendship with Mexico stands on the beach.

Net Hauling Experience

Summer Onjuku offers "jibiki-ami" (net hauling) as a leisure activity. Hauling nets with local fishermen and cooking and eating the caught fish is a hugely popular activity for children.

Onjuku Beach Swimming

Onjuku's beach has relatively calm waves suitable for families, with beautiful white sandy beaches. Nearby Katsuura Onsen allows combined swimming and hot spring trip plans.
