Sacred Ground of Japan's Eyeglasses

Sabae City, Fukui is known worldwide as the "sacred ground of eyeglasses" producing about 96% of domestic eyeglass frames. Glasses manufacturing began in the Meiji era in 1905 as a farming side business, and today "Sabae glasses" is recognized as a world-class brand.

Craftsman Technique Glasses Manufacturing

Sabae glasses are made through 200-400 processes, with many processes performed by hand by skilled craftsmen. Lightness, durability, and precision are internationally evaluated, with much OEM production for world top brands.

Sabae Glasses Experiences

"Megane Kaikan" has exhibitions to learn eyeglass manufacturing history and processes with frame-making experiences also available. Some Sabae City glasses shops offer custom-made frame services by craftsmen, allowing obtaining authentic Sabae glasses.
