Tojinbo's Precipitous Cliffs: Earth's Art Created by Japan Sea's Rough Waves
Precipitous Columnar Joint Cliffs
Tojinbo is a rocky area along the Japan Sea coast in Sakai City, Fukui, with cliffs continuing about 1km as the attraction. Hexagonal columnar rocks called "columnar joints" formed when lava cooled and solidified are exposed, designated as a national natural monument and scenic spot.
Power of Rough Waves and Cliffs
Tojinbo's greatest attraction is the powerful sight of Japan Sea's rough waves beating against rock walls. Especially during winter when Japan Sea's rough waves surge, white spray breaking on rocks is majestic with wild natural beauty felt.
Excursion Boats and Sightseeing
Excursion boats depart from Tojinbo allowing the experience of looking up at sheer cliffs from the sea side. Souvenir shops and restaurants line up nearby with seafood including Echizen crab and grilled squid also enjoyable. Also a famous sunset spot, Tojinbo at dusk is particularly beautiful.
