Ohori Park: Fukuoka City's Waterside Relaxation Space Utilizing a Hakata Bay Inlet
Ohori Park: An Urban Oasis Spreading by Hakata's Waterside
Ohori Park (Ohori-koen) in Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City, is a park developed from the "Ohori" — a Hakata Bay inlet used by the Fukuoka domain lord Kuroda family during the Edo period. It is an urban relaxation space with a jogging course, boating, cafes, and a Japanese garden maintained around a large pond approximately 2 kilometers in circumference.
Scenery by the Pond
The large pond at the park's center creates beautiful scenery with Fukuoka Tower, Fukuoka Castle ruins, and surrounding trees reflected in the water surface. It is beloved by citizens throughout the four seasons for early morning jogging, weekend boating, and dusk strolling.
Japanese Garden and Noh Theater
Within the park are a "Japanese Garden" (paid admission) and a "Noh Theater." The Japanese garden is a strolling garden incorporating Edo–Meiji period styles, with beautiful seasonal flowers. Traditional performing arts performances are also held at the Noh theater.
Surrounding Cafes and Cuisine
Stylish cafes and restaurants are increasing around the park, with lunches enjoyed while taking in the park scenery also popular. Seasonal flowers including spring cherry blossoms and early summer hydrangeas can be enjoyed.
Access
Approximately 5 minutes on foot from Subway Airport Line "Ohori Koen Station." Also adjacent to Fukuoka Castle ruins and Maizuru Park, allowing combined strolling.
