Tenjin: The Center of Shopping and Gourmet in Kyushu
"Tenjin" in Chuo Ward, Fukuoka City, is Kyushu's largest entertainment district. It is a major hub for fashion, gourmet, and entertainment with concentrated department stores such as Iwataya and Daimaru, fashion buildings such as Solaria Plaza, IMS, and Tenjin Core, and underground shopping malls such as Tenjin Underground Shopping Mall.
Tenjin Underground Shopping Mall
Tenjin Underground Shopping Mall (Chikaten) is an underground shopping street 590 meters long. Designed to evoke European street scenery, more than 150 stores including fashion, gourmet, cafes, and sundry goods line it. Gourmet restaurants particularly bustle during lunch and dinner times.
Nakasu and Daimyo Area Adjacent to Tenjin
"Nakasu" adjacent to Tenjin is a nightlife area, "Daimyo" is a trend area with stylish cafes and select shops concentrated. Many stores for young people's fashion and sundry goods are gathered.
Festivals and Annual Events
Various events are held in Tenjin throughout the year. New experiences can be had each visit including Christmas illuminations, summer Hakata Gion Yamakasa, and autumn Tenjin Festival.
Access
Nearest stations are Subway Airport Line "Tenjin Station" and Nishitetsu "Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station." A very easily accessible area, approximately 11 minutes by subway from Fukuoka Airport.
