Uminonakamichi Seaside Park: A National Grand Park Jutting into Genkai Sea
"Umi no Nakamichi" in Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City, is a narrow sandbar (peninsula) sandwiched between Genkai Sea and Hakata Bay. "National Uminonakamichi Seaside Park" spreading at its tip is a vast national park of approximately 340 hectares, featuring diverse facilities including flower gardens, Animal Forest (zoo), Water World (pool), and athletic grounds.
Seasonal Flowers
The park is adorned with different flowers each season: nemophila, tulips, and poppies in spring; sunflowers and hama-bou in summer; cosmos and autumn roses in fall. In particular, the carpet of spring nemophila (small blue flowers) is a photogenic popular spot that has become a social media topic.
Animal Forest
"Animal Forest" within the park allows interaction with rare animals including capybara, kangaroos, and squirrel monkeys. It is a facility hugely popular with children.
Ocean Swimming and Marine Sports
Ocean swimming can also be enjoyed at "Saitozaki Coast" and "Shikanoshima" adjacent to the park. It bustles with many families in summer.
Access
5 minutes on foot from JR Kashii Line "Uminonakamichi Station." Or accessible from Saitozaki Port to Hakata Port by municipal ferry. Approximately 30 minutes by car from central Fukuoka.
