Abukuma Cave: Limestone Cave of the Abukuma Mountains Created Over 80 Million Years

Abukuma Cave

Abukuma Cave in Takine, Tamura, Fukushima, is a limestone cave (approximately 600m general tourism course) formed in the limestone plateau of the Abukuma Mountains. Discovered during quarrying operations in 1969, it was opened to the public in 1973.

Tips

The cave is cold even in summer (about 13°C) — bring a light layer. The adventure course popular with children requires physical effort. Many visitors also combine with nearby "Irimizu Stalactite Cave."
