Gifu Castle: Scenic Castle on Kinkazan Where Nobunaga Based His Unification of Japan
Oda Nobunaga and Gifu Castle
Gifu Castle is a mountain castle built at the summit of Kinkazan (329m elevation) in central Gifu City. In 1567 Oda Nobunaga subjugated Mino Province and renamed Inabayama Castle to "Gifu Castle." Nobunaga aimed for unification of Japan under the banner of "Tenka Fubu (conquer the realm by force)" based from this castle.
Gifu Castle and Spectacular Views from Tower
The current Gifu Castle tower is a 1956 reconstruction offering grand panorama of Gifu cityscape, Nagaragawa, and Nobi Plain from the tower. Kinkazan is accessible by ropeway with mountain trekking courses also available.
Gifu City Sites Associated with Nobunaga
Gifu City has many spots associated with Nobunaga. A Nobunaga-associated journey can be enjoyed touring "Gifu Castle/Gifu Park" plus Nobunaga's bodhi temple "Sลfukuji Temple" and "Kano Castle Town" where Nobunaga established the free market system.
