Gujo Hachiman Castle
Gujo Hachiman Castle is a mountain castle built on a mountaintop (about 354m elevation) in Hachiman Town, Gujo City, Gifu, also called a "castle in the sky." The current castle tower is a 1933 wooden reconstruction, said to be "the oldest among existing wooden reconstructed castles."
Castle Town Atmosphere
Gujo Hachiman's castle town is a water town with the Yoshida River flowing, characterized by atmospheric townscape with Edo-period merchant houses, temples, and samurai residences remaining. The castle town's spring water "Sogisuะธ" was the 1st selection in "Japan's 100 Best Water Sources," still used as domestic water by local residents.
Gujo Hachiman's Charm
Gujo Hachiman is known as the "birthplace of Gujo Odori, Gujo Hachiman Castle, and food sample (plastic model cuisine)." Many of Japan's food samples are produced in Gujo City, Gifu with factories allowing food sample making experiences.
