Mino Washi is traditional hand-made washi paper made in Mino City, Gifu with about 1,300 years of history. One of "Japan's Three Great Washi" alongside Echizen Washi (Fukui) and Tosa Washi (Kochi), with use of Mino Washi in Nara-era Shoso-in imperial repository documents and official documents confirmed.
UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage
"Hand-made washi techniques" were registered as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014 (3 production areas of Echizen, Sekishu, and Hommino paper). Along with Mino City's townscape with udatsu (firewall), Mino Washi is Mino City's pride.
