♨️ Gunma|May 11, 2026

Kiryu: Sacred Land of Silk Weaving

Kiryu City has long been lauded as "Nishijin of the West, Kiryu of the East" as a renowned silk weaving production area. The Kiryu silk industry developed under Edo shogunate protection and became nationally known as a major weaving city in the Meiji era.

Sawtooth-Roof Textile Factories

Kiryu City retains many "sawtooth roof factory buildings" registered as modern industrial heritage. The characteristic jagged roofline for efficient natural lighting tells the story of Kiryu's modern industrialization.

Kiryu Tenmangu and Festivals

The "Kiryu Yagibushi Festival," one of the Kanto region's largest folk song festivals, brings the city alive with Yagibushi dance. Kiryu allows you to enjoy both old townscapes and traditional culture together.
