Hatsukaichi and Oono Natural Park: Enjoying Nature and Gourmet at the Gateway to Miyajima

Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima is known as the gateway to Miyajima (Itsukushima), but the city itself has unique appeal including the natural parks of the Oono district, traditional crafts, and gourmet.

Oono Natural Park and Four-Season Flowers

"Oono Natural Park" in the Oono district of Hatsukaichi City is a famous flower spot on hillsides overlooking the Seto Inland Sea. Four-season flowers can be enjoyed: spring cherry blossoms, early summer hydrangeas, summer lotus flowers, and autumn foliage. The Oono district can also be seen in panorama from the Miyajima Ropeway summit.

Hatsukaichi Oysters and Local Gourmet

Hatsukaichi City's sea area (Oono Seto) is one of Japan's leading oyster farming areas. Fresh oysters at local prices can be purchased at direct-sale shops around Hatsukaichi and Otake, and enjoying grilled oysters at oyster huts is a winter staple. As an area close to Miyajima, momiji manju factories and direct-sale stores are also plentiful.

Traditional Craft "Hatsukaichi Woodworking"

Hatsukaichi City has long been active in woodworking, known as a production area for shrine and temple fittings and wooden goods. Timber supporting Miyajima shrine buildings, Buddhist implements, and wooden miscellaneous goods also utilize Hatsukaichi craftsmanship.

From JR Sanyo Main Line Hatsukaichi Station to various spots. Miyajima-guchi Station (Miyajima ferry terminal) is also within Hatsukaichi City. About 20 minutes from Hiroshima Station.
