Hiroshima City Recovery and Peace: Message Conveyed by Atomic Bomb Dome and Peace Memorial Park

On August 6, 1945, an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima City. The bomb that instantly reduced the city to ruins is said to have killed approximately 140,000 people. However, Hiroshima City subsequently achieved magnificent recovery as a city symbolizing peace, now attracting several million domestic and international tourists annually on "journeys to think about peace."

Atomic Bomb Dome (UNESCO World Heritage Site)

The "Atomic Bomb Dome" is the ruins of the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, approximately 160 meters from the hypocenter. Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, it is preserved as common human heritage conveying the terror of nuclear weapons and the importance of peace.

Peace Memorial Park and Cenotaph

The "Peace Memorial Park" adjacent to the Atomic Bomb Dome has the Cenotaph for Atomic Bomb Victims, Flame of Peace, Children's Peace Monument, and more. The "Peace Memorial Museum" has exhibits vividly conveying atomic bomb damage, with deeply thought-provoking content for visitors.

Modern Hiroshima: Appeal of the Vibrant City

While calling for the importance of peace, modern Hiroshima is also active in sports including the Hiroshima Carp and Sanfrecce Hiroshima, a vibrant city rich in commerce and culture.
