Great Nature of the Geopark

San'in Kaigan National Park, certified as a UNESCO World Geopark in 2010, is a geologically precious area. Diverse terrain including coastal terraces, sea caves, sand dunes, and rias coastline can be enjoyed.

Genbudo Cave

Genbudo near Kinosaki Onsen in Toyooka City is an outcrop of columnar jointing formed by volcanic activity about 1.6 million years ago. The Seiryu, Byakko, Genbu, and Suzaku caves line up, a geological spot for enjoying the beauty of columnar jointing.

Amarube Viaduct

Amarube Viaduct in Kasumi Ward, Kami-cho, is a historic railway bridge where the 1912 steel truss bridge was replaced with a concrete bridge in 2010 while retaining the old piers. The old piers are preserved as Crystal Tower with observation facilities offering spectacular views.

Hamasaka Sand Dunes

Hamasaka Sand Dunes in Shin-Onsen-cho is Hyogo's largest sand dune, second only to Tottori Sand Dunes. Sand dune strolling combined with Japan Sea scenery provides a unique experience.
