Kashima Jingu: Shrine of Martial Arts

Kashima Jingu in Kashima City, Ibaraki is the head shrine of about 600 Kashima shrines nationwide. Dedicated to Takemikazuchi no Okami, it has been venerated as the deity of martial arts and military arts since ancient times.

Majestic Approach and Main Hall

The approach lined with towering cedar trees creates a profoundly sacred atmosphere. The main hall and worship hall are Important Cultural Properties, and near the inner shrine, a mysterious spring called "Kashima no Mitarashi Ike" wells up.

Combined Visit with Katori Jingu

The "dual shrine visit" combining Katori Jingu across the Tone River in Chiba has been practiced since ancient times. Both shrines form the center of the "Three East Country Shrines" and are popular as power spots.
