History of Kutani Ware
Kutani Ware is color-painted ceramics originating in Kaga City (former Kutani Village), Ishikawa, said to have begun around 1655 in the early Edo era. Traditional ceramics characterized by vivid color painting called "Kutani five colors" of red, yellow, green, purple, and Prussian blue, with bold yet delicate painting.
Types of Kutani Ware
Kutani Ware has many styles including Old Kutani, Yoshidaya, Kasugayama, Miyamoto-ya, and Eiraku. Each has characteristics in painting style and color use, popular ceramics among collectors. Modern Kutani Ware produces diverse works incorporating new designs while preserving tradition.

Kaga City's "Kutani Ware Kiln Ruins Exhibition Hall" allows viewing ancient Kutani kiln ruins. Kilns and sales shops are also concentrated in Komatsu City, Kanazawa City, and Nomi City, with a wide range from artist pieces to everyday tableware. Many facilities offer painting experiences, enjoyable as part of sightseeing.
