Oyama Afuri Shrine: The Power Spot of the Rain-Bringing Mountain
Rain-Bringing Mt. Oyama
Mt. Oyama (1,252m) in Isehara City, Kanagawa has the nickname "rain-bringing Oyama," one of the Kanto region's top power spots. Oyama Afuri Shrine has locations on the mountainside (lower shrine) and summit (main shrine), said to offer matchmaking and business prosperity blessings.
Cable Car and Hiking Routes
The Oyama Cable Car provides easy access to the lower shrine. Hiking trails from the lower shrine to the summit have "Women's Slope" and "Men's Slope" routes, each with attractions including Oyama-dera Temple. The summit offers a grand panorama of Sagami Bay, Tokyo, and Mt. Fuji.
Oyama Tofu and Traditional Pilgrimage
From the Edo period, "Oyama Mairi" (Oyama pilgrimage) attracted many Edo townspeople. Many tofu restaurants line the approach, and "Oyama Tofu" is an essential post-pilgrimage meal.
