Odawara Castle: The Impregnable Fortress and Hojo Clan History
The Mightiest Sengoku Castle
Odawara Castle flourished as the main castle of the Later Hojo clan in the Sengoku period, known as an "impregnable fortress." It withstood Toyotomi Hideyoshi's massive siege in 1590 for an extended period. The reconstructed castle tower offers panoramic views of Odawara City and Sagami Bay.
The Later Hojo Clan History
The Later Hojo clan used Odawara as their base, dominating the Kanto region for over 100 years as Sengoku warlords. Odawara, which flourished as a castle town, still retains historical atmosphere with Hojo-related temples and ruins scattered throughout.
Odawara Seafood
Odawara is also a seafood production area facing Sagami Bay. Odawara dried fish (especially dried horse mackerel) is nationally famous, purchasable at shops near the station and in the castle town shopping district.
