Sankei-en Garden: Yokohama's Japanese Garden and Historic Buildings
A Famous Garden Created by an Industrialist
Sankei-en is a stroll garden opened in 1906 by Meiji-Taisho era industrialist Hara Sankei. A vast garden in the hills of Yokohama Honmoku overlooking Tokyo Bay, designated a National Scenic Spot.
Treasure House of Historic Buildings
The grounds have 17 historic buildings relocated and preserved from the Edo to Meiji eras, including 10 Important Cultural Properties. Three-story pagodas, traditional thatched farmhouses, and tea rooms harmonize with the garden, creating a unique landscape.
Seasonal Flowers
Spring brings plum, cherry, and ume blossoms, summer has lotus flowers, and autumn brings foliage, with beautiful plants enjoyable through all seasons. Also popular with foreign tourists as a traditional Japanese cultural experience.
