Fushimi Inari Taisha
Mystery of the Thousand Torii Gates
Fushimi Inari Taisha, founded in 711, attracts worshippers from across Japan as the deity of business prosperity, good harvests, and family safety. Thousands of vermilion torii gates have been donated on Inari Mountain, known worldwide as the "Senbon Torii" (Thousand Torii).
Inari Mountain Hiking
A 2-3 hour round-trip hiking course to the summit (Ichinomone) of Inari Mountain. Along the way, many auxiliary shrines have fox statues and donated torii gates, creating a uniquely mystical atmosphere for walking.
Most Popular Spot for Foreign Tourists
Recent surveys consistently rank it among the top tourist spots for foreign visitors to Japan. Late night and early morning have fewer people, ideal for fantastical photos of the vermilion torii gates.
Foxes and Inari Faith
Fox statues, considered messengers of the Inari deity, are scattered throughout the grounds. Lucky charms and foods related to foxes, including "kitsune-face omikuji" fortune slips and inari sushi, are also popular.
