Two Sacred Sites
Kuramadera on Kurama Mountain is known as a sacred site of tengu goblins, with the legend that Minamoto no Yoshitsune learned martial arts from tengu as a child. Kibune Shrine enshrines Takaokami no Kami, the water deity, also known for matchmaking blessings.
Kurama Mountain Hiking
The hiking course from Kurama Station through Kuramadera to Kibune is a 2-3 hour course walking through cedar groves. Mysterious spots including Okunoin Magoden are scattered along the way.
Kibune Kawadoko Riverside Dining
In summer, kawadoko (dining platforms over the river) set up over Kibune River offer meals. Dining while feeling the coolness above the clear stream is a Kyoto summer luxury experience.
Winter Snow Scene
Kurama and Kibune become a world apart when snow falls. The fantastical scenery created by snow on stone steps and lantern light is one of Kyoto's winter spectacular views.
