Nishiki Market is a shopping street with about 130 stores continuing from the early Edo period, affectionately called "Kyoto's Kitchen" by Kyoto residents and tourists. Located north of Shijo-dori, it is a long, narrow market covered by an arcade.

Kyoto vegetables (Kamo eggplant, Manganji peppers, Kujo leeks), Kyoto tofu, Kyoto pickles (suguki, senmaizuke, shibazuke), chirimen sansho, and yuba are abundantly available. Numerous prepared food and skewer shops also allow food walking.
Inheritance of Tradition
Many long-established shops continuing since the end of the Edo period each maintain their unique production methods and flavors. Specialty stores handling Kyoto cuisine ingredients are authentic markets visited by chefs and restaurant head cooks for procurement.
