Hanamachi Atmosphere
Pontocho is one of Kyoto's hanamachi continuing since the Edo period, a traditional cultural venue where maiko and geiko work. Lanterns illuminating the narrow cobblestone alley with restaurants on both sides creates Kyoto's characteristic atmosphere.
Summer Kawayuka
"Kawayuka" (riverside dining platforms) extending over the Kamo River is Pontocho's signature summer event. Experiencing dining while feeling the river breeze is one of Kyoto summer's representative luxuries, offered from May to September.
