Pontocho

Hanamachi Atmosphere

Pontocho is one of Kyoto's hanamachi continuing since the Edo period, a traditional cultural venue where maiko and geiko work. Lanterns illuminating the narrow cobblestone alley with restaurants on both sides creates Kyoto's characteristic atmosphere.

Summer Kawayuka

"Kawayuka" (riverside dining platforms) extending over the Kamo River is Pontocho's signature summer event. Experiencing dining while feeling the river breeze is one of Kyoto summer's representative luxuries, offered from May to September.

Diverse Dining

Pontocho has diverse restaurants from traditional Kyoto cuisine ryotei to casual izakayas and bars. Michelin-starred restaurants coexist with reasonably priced spots enjoyable on various budgets.

Maiko Culture

"Kamogawa Odori" is held every May at Pontocho Kaburenjo Theater. The elegant dancing and music by maiko and geiko is a precious opportunity to experience Kyoto's traditional culture.
