Uji Matcha

Sacred Ground of Japanese Tea

Uji's tea history dates to the 13th century. Uji matcha, ground from tea leaves grown by the unique "covered cultivation" technique, is characterized by vivid green color and rich umami, one of the highest-rated matchas in the tea ceremony world.

Matcha Sweets

In Uji, diverse matcha sweets can be enjoyed. Matcha parfait, matcha soft serve, matcha warabi mochi, and matcha latte — matcha sweets food walking has become a standard tourist course.

Uji Byodoin

The World Heritage Byodoin Phoenix Hall, known from the 10-yen coin design, is the converted villa of the Fujiwara clan. The architecture and garden expressing the Pure Land of Bliss are National Treasures and the main Uji tourist spot.

Ujigami Shrine and Uji River

Ujigami Shrine (World Heritage) is known as Japan's oldest shrine architecture. Courses combining strolling along the clear Uji River and tea field viewing are popular with tourists.
