World's First Pearl Cultivation

In 1893, Mikimoto Kokichi succeeded in the world's first pearl cultivation in Ago Bay. Today, numerous pearl cultivation rafts float in the bay, known worldwide as a major pearl producing area.

Scenic Rias Coastline

Ago Bay's intricate rias coastline creates spectacular scenery with countless islands and inlets. Cruise tours within the bay are popular, allowing visitors to observe pearl cultivation up close.

Mikimoto Pearl Island

On Mikimoto Pearl Island in Toba City, a museum about Mikimoto Kokichi's achievements can be explored, along with demonstrations of ama divers harvesting pearls, and pearl product shopping.

Ise-Shima G7 Summit

Ago Bay was also the stage for the 2016 G7 Ise-Shima Summit. The view of the bay from the summit venue, Shima Kanko Hotel, captivated world leaders.
