Akiu Onsen

Akiu Onsen in Sendai's Taihaku Ward is a historic hot spring said to have healed Prince Shotoku's skin condition in the Asuka period. Beloved as Sendai's "inner retreat," it is an accessible resort about 1 hour from central Sendai.

- From Sendai Station by Miyagi Kotsu Bus "Akiu Onsen" line: about 1 hour - From central Sendai by car: about 30โ€“40 minutes (via National Route 286)

Tips

Weekdays are recommended as weekends are crowded. The Rairaikyo promenade is especially atmospheric at dusk.
