Akiu Onsen in Sendai's Taihaku Ward is a historic hot spring said to have healed Prince Shotoku's skin condition in the Asuka period. Beloved as Sendai's "inner retreat," it is an accessible resort about 1 hour from central Sendai.

Tips
Weekdays are recommended as weekends are crowded. The Rairaikyo promenade is especially atmospheric at dusk.
