Togakushi Shrine and Amano-Iwato Myth
Togakushi Shrine in Togakushi, Nagano City, Nagano is said to be a place related to the legend of "Amano-Iwato (Heavenly Rock Cave)" where Amaterasu Omikami hid. Composed of 5 shrines (Okushi, Chusha, Hokosha, Kuzuryu-sha, Hinomikoja), revered as a spiritually powerful place of faith.
Cedar-Lined Approach to Inner Shrine
The approach to the inner shrine is a long path about 2km, with particularly the last about 500m section having the "Sugi-namiki (Cedar Avenue)" of giant cedars over 400 years old lined up. The sacred atmosphere approach enveloped in green cedars shows different expressions with each season.
Togakushi Soba and Highland Nature
Togakushi is also known as a soba specialty production area, with many specialty shops serving Togakushi soba lined up along the shrine approach. Togakushi Highland also has active outdoor activities including bird watching, hiking, and camping for nature enjoyment throughout the year.
