Nagasaki Night View: Spectacular Scenery from Inasayama Counted Among the World's Three Great Night Views
Nagasaki Night View: One of Japan's Three Great Night Views Boasting World-Class Status
Nagasaki City's night view is said to be one of "Japan's Three Great Night Views of Hakodate (Hokkaido), Kobe (Hyogo), and Nagasaki (Nagasaki)," and also one of the "World's Three Great Night Views of Monaco, Hong Kong, and Nagasaki." In Nagasaki City's bowl-shaped terrain surrounded by mountains on three sides, a unique night view is created where residential buildings, buildings, and port lights spread three-dimensionally along slopes.
Inasayama Observation Deck
The observation deck at the summit of Inasayama (333 meters above sea level) is the standard Nagasaki night view spot. A ropeway allows climbing to the summit, where 360-degree spectacular scenery overlooking Nagasaki city, Nagasaki Port, and settlements on the opposite shore can be enjoyed. The scenery changing from dusk to nighttime is particularly beautiful — a popular spot for couples and families.
Glover Skyroad and City of Slopes
Nagasaki city has many sloped streets, with some districts accessible not only by streetcar and bus but also by "inclined elevator (Glover Skyroad)." Nagasaki scenery seen from the top of slopes is exceptional both day and night.
Relationship Between Nagasaki City and the Port
Nagasaki Port has functioned since ancient times as a port for foreign trade through Dejima, with many cruise ships still calling today. The combination of cruise ships moored in the port and the night view is particularly spectacular.
Access
For Inasayama, move from Nagasaki Electric Tram "Takaramachi Station" to ropeway boarding point "Fuchijinja Station" by foot or bus, then ropeway to summit (approximately 5 minutes). Approximately 30 minutes from JR Nagasaki Station.
