Yahiko Shrine in Yahiko Village, Niigata is the first-rank shrine (ichinomiya) of Echigo Province, an ancient shrine long revered by Echigo people. Dedicated to Ameno-kagayama no Mikoto, a descendant of Amaterasu, it is known for blessings of agriculture, industry, and matchmaking.
Hiking Mount Yahiko
Mount Yahiko (634m), the sacred body of Yahiko Shrine, has hiking trails developed for enjoying hiking. The summit offers panoramic views of the Echigo Plain, Japan Sea, and Sado Island, exceptional on clear days. Ropeway access is also available.
Famous Autumn Foliage Spot
The autumn foliage at Yahiko Park and Yahiko Shrine is known as one of Niigata Prefecture's top foliage spots. In Momiji-dani (Maple Valley), beautiful red and yellow foliage blooms in November with the Momiji Festival.
