Saga International Balloon Fiesta: Asia's Largest Hot Air Balloon Competition

"Saga International Balloon Fiesta," held annually from late October to early November at Kasegawa riverbed in Saga City, Saga Prefecture, is Asia's largest class hot air balloon competition with over 100 hot air balloons participating from Japan and abroad. Held continuously since the 1st competition in 1978, it has become a seasonal tradition of Saga's autumn.

Competitions and Highlights

Various competitions including "Pilot Rendezvous" and "Key Grab" are held. The morning simultaneous takeoff (mass ascension) is the biggest highlight, with the sight of over 100 balloons simultaneously soaring into the sky being very spectacular. The evening "Balloon Glow (nighttime tethered flight)" is also popular as a fantastical sight.

Experience Flights

"Experience flights" for the general public are also conducted during the event period, allowing passengers to enjoy spectacular views of Saga plain and Ariake Sea from above (lottery-based, paid).

Venue Gourmet and Food Stalls

Local gourmet food stalls line the venue, allowing enjoyment of Saga's flavors including Saga beef, Ureshino tea, and Yobuko squid.

Access

Nearest station is JR Nagasaki Main Line "Balloon Saga Station" (stops only during fiesta period). Also within walking distance from Saga Station (approximately 20 minutes).
