Genkai Quasi-National Park: Enjoying Spectacular Ocean Scenery of Genkai Sea

"Genkai Quasi-National Park" is a quasi-national park along the Genkai Sea coast spanning three prefectures of Nagasaki, Saga, and Fukuoka. Characterized by scenery comprising magnificent sea cliffs, basalt reefs, and outlying islands, scenic spots including Nanatsugama, Niji no Matsubara, and Yobuko are included within the park.

Highlights on the Saga Side

Main highlights of Genkai Quasi-National Park on the Saga side include "Nanatsugama (basalt sea caves)," "Hadomisaki (northernmost cape of Saga)," "Kakara Island (island where King Muryeong was born)," and "Madara Island." Views of Genkai Sea from the Hadomisaki observation deck are particularly spectacular.

Hadomisaki and Genkai Underwater Observation Tower

At the northernmost point of Karatsu City, "Hadomisaki," is the "Genkai Underwater Observation Tower," where fish and coral in the sea can be observed from the underwater area of the floating tower (paid). Snorkeling can also be enjoyed in the surrounding area.

Island Ferry Trips

Regular ferries operate from Yobuko Port to outlying islands including "Kakara Island," "Madara Island," and "Ogawa Island." Slow tourism including agricultural and fishing experiences and minshuku accommodation on outlying islands is also popular.

Access

Car access is convenient (30โ€“60 minutes from central Karatsu to each spot). Public transportation allows access to various locations by bus from JR Karatsu Station.
