The Principal Shrine of Chichibu
Chichibu Shrine is the guardian deity of Chichibu City, an ancient shrine with over 2,000 years of history, one of the Kanto region's most venerable shrines. As the general shrine of Chichibu Province, it has long gathered faith and is known for the December "Chichibu Night Festival."
The Seven Mysteries
Chichibu Shrine has "seven mysteries" including the "child-blessing tiger," "north star owl," and "binding dragon" sculptures that show different forms depending on viewing direction. These sculptures were created during the era of Tokugawa Iemitsu, showcasing outstanding Edo-period carving.
Chichibu Nature and Tourism
Chichibu is a nature-rich tourist destination, and combined itineraries visiting Nagatoro, Mt. Buko, and Mitsumine Shrine alongside Chichibu Shrine are popular. B-grade gourmet including Chichibu soba and miso potato are also enjoyable.
