Kawagoe Festival: Floats and Festival Music in Edo Atmosphere
UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage
Kawagoe Festival is a traditional festival held every October as the Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine procession. In 2016, it was recognized as part of UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage "Yama, Hoko, Yatai Float Festivals."
Magnificent Float Competition
Decades of floats from each town district gather for the festival. The sound of "Kawagoe Bayashi" festival music played when the floats assemble echoes through the nighttime storehouse district. The "hikkawase" face-off between floats is the festival climax.
Beauty of the Storehouse Town at Night
Festival night sees the storehouse buildings illuminated, wrapped in a fantastical different atmosphere from daytime. With many food stalls lining the streets, enjoy the Kawagoe night to its fullest.
