Castle of Success: Hamamatsu Castle
Hamamatsu Castle is castle ruins in Naka Ward, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka, the residence where Tokugawa Ieyasu spent 17 years from 1570 to 1586. Also called "Castle of Success" as the home where Ieyasu experienced many battles and grew as a warrior. The "Castle of Success" name also comes from many castle lords who resided at Hamamatsu Castle subsequently advancing their careers.
Hamamatsu Castle Park
Hamamatsu Castle ruins are currently developed as "Hamamatsu Castle Park" with a castle tower reconstructed in 1958. The castle tower platform (existing nozurazumi stone walls) is designated as a national historic site with views of Hamamatsu cityscape and Enshu-nada from the tower.
Hamamatsu Associated with Ieyasu
Hamamatsu City has tourism developed for touring Ieyasu-associated spots as "Ieyasu-ko Commendation Project." Spots associated with Ieyasu's Hamamatsu period are scattered including Mikatagahara ancient battlefield ruins, Saigasaki Museum, and Ieyasu bronze statue.
