A Mystical Highland Lake
Lake Chuzenji is an approximately 11.6 km² lake at 1,269m elevation, formed by an eruption of Mt. Nantai. The deep blue lake that suddenly appears after ascending Irohazaka overwhelms visitors with its beauty.
Spectacular Autumn Foliage
The autumn foliage season from mid-October to early November is especially beautiful, with autumn colors reflected on the lake surface. Views of Mt. Nantai across the lake from Chuzenji Onsen inns are like paintings.
Pleasure Boats and Fishing
Boat tours offer exceptional views of the surrounding scenery. The lake is also known as a sacred ground for Japanese stream fishing, attracting many anglers for rainbow trout and himemasu char.
