Anan City: Southern Shikoku's Coast Where Loggerhead Sea Turtles Nest
The Pacific coastline of Anan City, Tokushima Prefecture (particularly Kamoda Beach, Tsubakidomari, etc.) is known as a precious coastline where loggerhead sea turtles come to nest. During the nesting season from May–August every year, mother turtles coming ashore on sandy beaches at night to lay eggs can be observed.
Sea Turtle Observation and Protection Activities
Local conservation organizations watch over loggerhead sea turtle nesting 24 hours a day, assisting with egg hatching. Baby turtle release events are held around August–September, open to general public participation. It is a moving experience touching the mystery of life.
Cape Kamoda
"Cape Kamoda (Kamoda Misaki)" located at the southern tip of Anan City is Shikoku's easternmost cape. The view of the Kii Channel from the lighthouse is spectacular, and coastal beauty of sea erosion caves and strange rocks can also be enjoyed.
Anan Seafood
Anan's seafood raised in the rich Pacific fishing grounds is high quality, with pike conger, lobster, and bonito in particular being specialties. Fresh seafood can be enjoyed at local restaurants.
Access
Access from JR Anan Station to the city and Cape Kamoda area by bus or car. Approximately 40 minutes by car from Tokushima city.
