Koenji Awa Odori is held in Koenji, Suginami Ward, Tokyo every August, Tokyo's largest summer festival with over one million participants and spectators combined. Second only to Tokushima's Awa Odori in scale, it features about 10,000 dancers.
Traditional and Modern Dance Mix
Connected dance groups from original Tokushima and Tokyo groups perform together, with diverse performances from traditional dances to modern arrangements. The space filled with dancer passion and audience cheers overflows with overwhelming energy.
Koenji's Unique Town
Koenji is a representative Tokyo subculture and indie culture town with vintage clothing shops, live music venues, and unique cafes. Street exploring is enjoyable outside of festival season too, with unique shop visits as the travel highlight.
