Ueno Park: Cultural Holy Land
Ueno Park in Taito Ward, Tokyo has multiple cultural facilities concentrated in one area, including the Tokyo National Museum, National Museum of Western Art, and Ueno Zoo. The National Museum of Western Art's Le Corbusier-designed building is also a World Heritage Site.
Sacred Cherry Blossom Viewing Spot
Ueno Park has been one of Tokyo's top hanami spots since the Edo period, especially busy in spring when about 800 cherry trees bloom simultaneously. People spreading picnic sheets under cherry trees for parties is an iconic spring scene.
Ameyoko Shopping Street
"Ameya Yokocho (Ameyoko)" in front of Ueno Station developed from a postwar black market, a lively market with diverse goods including food, clothing, and sundries. The year-end New Year preparation shopping crowds are also famous.
