White Rabbit of Inaba and Hakuto Shrine: Visiting the Stage of Japanese Mythology and Sacred Marriage Spot
Hakuto Coast and Hakuto Shrine in northwestern Tottori City are the setting of the "White Rabbit of Inaba" myth recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki chronicles. The myth tells of Okuninushi-no-Mikoto traveling from Izumo to Inaba helping an injured white rabbit whose fur had been stripped by a wani (shark), and receiving the prophecy "you will be united with Princess Yakami" โ said to bring blessings for matchmaking.
Hakuto Shrine
"Hakuto Shrine" facing Hakuto Coast is a matchmaking shrine enshrining the white rabbit (Hakuto Okami) as its deity. The "Goishi Stone" in the precincts is known as a power stone where couples who stand on it will have their bond strengthened. The road station "Mythology Village Shirousagi" sells rabbit goods and local seafood.
Hakuto Coast Scenery
Hakuto Coast is a beautiful beach with highly transparent sandy beach, bustling with swimmers in summer. The Tottori Sand Dunes area can be seen from the coast, offering spectacular Sea of Japan views.
Sacred Matchmaking Site Tour
Hakuto Shrine is known along with Izumo Taisha as a setting for the god of matchmaking, attracting many couples and visitors praying for marriage. Protective amulets and matchmaking ema votive tablets are also abundant.

About 30 minutes by bus from JR Tottori Station (alight at Hakuto Shrine-mae). About 30 minutes by car from central Tottori City.
