Yonago City, Tottori is a city developed as the transportation and commercial hub of the San'in region, with commercial facilities and restaurants concentrated around JR Yonago Station. Diverse tourist spots including Kaike Onsen, Lake Nakaumi, and Mt. Daisen are dotted throughout the surrounding area, in a convenient location as a San'in sightseeing base.
Yonago Castle Ruins and Minatoyama Park
Yonago Castle ruins built on Minatoyama in central Yonago are designated as a National Historic Site. From the castle tower base, San'in's premier panorama of Lake Nakaumi, Sea of Japan, and Mt. Daisen spreads out. "Minatoyama Park" around the castle ruins is known as a cherry blossom spot, with 700 cherry trees blooming in spring.
San'in Food Culture: Izumo Soba and Seafood
As Yonago City is located on the Shimane-Tottori border, both prefectures' food cultures intermix. Izumo soba culture has also taken hold, and wari-ko (stacked lacquerware box) soba can be enjoyed at city soba restaurants. Fresh seafood cuisine using Sakaiminato's fresh catches is also well-represented.
Hino River Cycling
Along the Hino River flowing through Yonago City, there are developed cycling paths. Bicycle excursions with views of Mt. Daisen are simple journeys also allowing enjoyment of local life scenery.
Access
JR Yonago Station is about 2.5 hours from Osaka by limited express "Super Hakuto." About 1 hour from Tottori City by limited express.
