Yumigahama Peninsula: Spectacular White Sand and Pine Scenery Created by Bow-Shaped Sandbar and Lake Nakaumi
Yumigahama Peninsula spanning Yonago and Sakaiminato cities, Tottori is a unique landform where a bow arc-shaped sandbar separates the Sea of Japan from Lake Nakaumi (a brackish lake connected to Lake Shinji). A beautiful coastline of white sand and green pines stretches approximately 17 kilometers, known as a spot with magnificent views of sunsets over the Sea of Japan and Mt. Daisen.
White Sand and Pine Sandy Beach
Yumigahama's sandy beach has the typical "white sand and green pine" scenery with harmony of white fine sand and lush pine forests. Swimming beaches open in summer, attracting many families. Relaxing in the shade of pine trees is also pleasant.
Contrast of Sea of Japan and Lake Nakaumi
The characteristic of Yumigahama Peninsula is showing completely different expressions on the Sea of Japan side and Lake Nakaumi side. The Sea of Japan side has a dynamic sea with continuous wave-lapped shores, while the Nakaumi side spreads a quiet lake surface with gathering waterbirds in a calm inland sea. Migratory bird watching is also enjoyable on Lake Nakaumi.
Mt. Daisen and Sunsets
The combination of Mt. Daisen's silhouette viewed from Yumigahama's sandy beach and the sunset sinking into the Sea of Japan is one of San'in's representative spectacular views. The moment when the golden horizon and Mt. Daisen's shadow overlap is extraordinary.
Access
By foot or bicycle from Sakaiminato Line stations (Goto Station, Babasaki Station, etc.) to the coast. Cycling tours from Yonago Station are also popular.
