Toyama Tateyama Climbing: Sacred Summit and Panoramic Views of Oyama
Oyama: Tateyama's Highest Peak
Oyama (3,003m) is the main peak of Toyama's Tateyama range, with Oyama Shrine's main sanctuary at the summit. Many worshippers visit this sacred mountain with over 1,300 years of history, known as one of Japan's "Three Sacred Mountains."
Climbing and Faith
Hiking courses from Murodo (2,450m) are developed for reaching the summit in 2-3 hours even in summer. At the summit shrine, pilgrims can receive prayers at the top sanctuary by paying a worship fee.
Murodo Alpine Plants
The Murodo area of Tateyama is a treasure house of alpine plants, with plants including chinguruma and kobaikeso blooming in summer. Ptarmigan also inhabit the area, and lucky visitors may encounter them.
