Imizu Naikawa: Strolling the Venice-Like Canal-Side Port Town
Venice of Japan
Imizu City's Naikawa in Toyama Prefecture is called the "Venice of Japan," a beautiful canal-side port town. Along both banks of the about 1.4km Naikawa, fishing boats line up with 9 bridges crossing, creating a charming waterside scenery.
Showa Retro Port Atmosphere
Along Naikawa stand old fisherman huts and merchant houses retaining Showa-era appearances, with an atmosphere of time travel. The scenery of fishing boats returning to port at dusk is particularly beautiful, popular as a photography spot.
Shinminato Local Cuisine
Imizu City's former Shinminato district thrived as a fishing town with fresh seafood available. Toyama Bay's bounty including white shrimp, firefly squid, and yellowtail can be enjoyed at local restaurants, with local cuisine "Shinminato kissako" also popular.
