History of Takaoka Copperware
Takaoka Copperware is metalwork made in Takaoka City, Toyama with over 400 years of history. It is said to have begun when Kaga domain lord Maeda Toshinaga invited casters for industrial promotion of the castle town opened in 1609. Currently, Takaoka is known worldwide as a production area accounting for about 95% of Japan's copper production.

Takaoka craftsmen are said to have been involved in restoration of the Great Buddha of Nara and the Statue of Liberty in New York, with their precision techniques recognized worldwide. Diverse techniques including casting, coloring, and engraving are handed down.
Takaoka Tourism and Craft Experiences
In Takaoka City, there are exhibition facilities for copperware and places for workshop tours, allowing close experience of manufacturing sites. The Takaoka City Art Museum also offers viewing of Takaoka craft collections.
