Mt. Fuji Climbing: Emotional Mountain Journey Challenging Japan's Highest Peak
Mt. Fuji Climbing Routes
Mt. Fuji climbing has 4 main routes. The most-used "Yoshida Route (Fujiyoshida Entrance)" is from Yamanashi Prefecture, while "Fujinomiya Route," "Gotemba Route," and "Subashiri Route" are from Shizuoka Prefecture. Normally the 5th station (2,300-2,400m) is the starting point aiming for the summit (3,776m).
Sunrise from the Summit
The greatest pleasure of Mt. Fuji climbing is seeing "Goraiko (sunrise)" from the summit. The sight of the sun rising above the sea of clouds is an emotional spectacle worth seeing once in a lifetime. Nighttime climbing to reach the summit at dawn is the standard climbing style.
Precautions for Mt. Fuji Climbing
Mt. Fuji requires sufficient equipment and physical strength due to high elevation and sudden weather changes. Attention to altitude sickness (altitude disorder) is necessary with slow gradual climbing being important. Since 2023, climbing restrictions have been introduced in some sections of the Yoshida Route as congestion measures.
